Greeting's fellow humanoid's,
Nothing has caused as much controversy and panic as the dreaded moment the clock will turn over from Dec 31st, 1999 to Jan 1st, 2000. Will it be the end of the world? Will all of human civilization collapse? To the uneducated mind, this may pose as nothing more than the doomsday rantings of a fanatical mind. But, once all information is obtained, these questions pose serious debates. Take a look at this excerpt from a BBC News article:
"Russia faces potentially severe
problems from the millennium bug. Despite having fewer computers than other
leading nations, it is generally ranked in the bottom category in dealing
with the Y2K problem.
The US State Department reported
in September that disruptions wre likely to occur in "the key sectors of
electrical power, heat, telecommunications, transportation, and financial
and emergency services".
On 12 July, Alexander Ivanov, head
of the State Communications Committee, announced that only one third of
the country's 28,000 vital computer systems were ready for Y2K."
That seems quite devastating if you live in Russia, you say? What will that have to do with us, here in the United States? Plenty. Some of you may already know, and I'm sure a lot of you don't. You see, the problem with this is that every single one of Russia's nuclear weapons are aimed all over the United States. All it would take to wipe out the U.S. is the push of a button, or.... a computer glitch. Russia has been asking the United States for $3 billion dollars to aid them in preparing for the Y2K virus, but so far the United States has not helped one bit.
Other than power outages, erased medical, insurance, and financial documents, and a few other minor details, the year 2000 isn't really anything to worry about. Sure, we may all be burnt to a crisp by the poisonous radioactive heat once Russia's nuclear weapons malfunction, or we may just be in the dark with no money and medical insurance for a few months, but is it all really so bad?
As we inch closer to the Year 2000, the fear and panic that has reared its ugly head has been building, and building. Uncertainty as to whether or not things will go wrong have been causing people to stock up on money and food. This could very well cause a socio-economic downfall. Mass hysteria builds, cult's retreat to their compounds, survivalists prepare to shoot at anything and anyone who wanders onto their land, and religious fanatics retreat into the hills, awaiting the Second Coming of their invisible messiah. There is no doubt that, no matter what happens, the Year 2000 is going to bring a considerable amount of devastation. But to just what degree is the question at hand.
Another doom and gloom prophecy revolving around the year 2000 is the date May 5th, 2000. Supposedly, every planet in our solar system is to align on that date, causing SEVERE effects on the Earth itself. Apparently, every volcano on the surface of the Earth is to erupt, violent earthquakes estimated at over 9.5 are to rock the Earth's crust, causing gigantic cracks in it's surface. The tide is supposed to rise so tremendously, that at least one half of the United States will be sugmerged under the sea. Only 4% of the Earth's population is expected to survive this mass devastation. This has been calculated thoroughly by scientists across the globe. Only one problem. The planet's will not align on 5/5/00. Many recent astronomical calculations have proven this, debunking these myths. Another good theory, that I tend to agree with, is that other times when the planets aligned, none of this happened.
If we do survive this global turning-point,
however, it is undoubtedly certain at what tragedies we will witness. We
have all ready seen the various cult suicides that have come about due
to the impending turn of the century, but how many have been planning such
an inevitable doom? How many of our loved ones are all ready drawn into
this elite circle? Recently, there was a startling revelation of a cult
that was planning a mass murder/suicide on New Years Day. How many more
of these are in the works? And where?
With all the negativity, there
does come positive predictions for this turning point in humanity. Some
predict global unity, world wide harmony, and peace on Earth. Perhaps the
effects of the Y2K bug will be for the better? Will it take us back to
an age where mankind was not so pressured by the effects of technology,
where man and womankind were united? Or will it plunge us into a post-modern,
apocalyptic Dark Age? Will the Earth be nothing more than a desolate wasteland,
filled with the filth of humanity, or will it become a Utopia in which
Mother Earth will once again become the fertile entity She once was?
The year 2000 seems to be a milestone in the history of humanity. But will it actually bring about the destruction of mankind? Or is it just mass hysteria caused by media hype and doomsday cults? One would think that the only devastation caused would be from all the negative energy we have stored inside ourselves, which will be theoretically released come 1/1/00. Will Mother Nature seek to destroy us, or will we destroy ourselves? We have less than 3 months to find out.
